The simple joy of raising chickens for eggs

by admin on January 15, 2014

I did not realize just how bummed I was about our hens lack of egg production the last 6 weeks until just the past few days. I’ve been collecting 3 eggs a day this week from our 8 hens. This might not seem like much, but when we went 10 days without any eggs and 6 total weeks of maybe an egg per day (if we were lucky!) this is a huge jump.

Instead of a depressing, head shaking, walk back to the house – I am quite pleased these days. If you have never raised chickens for eggs you just don’t know the convenience and taste difference of raising your own.

During peak egg production in the summer we were getting about 6 eggs per day which was great. Even with around three eggs per day we will get over a dozen and a half eggs each week which is great.

Well, now we can go back to eating more eggs again which will make everyone in the family happy!
