Square Foot Gardening Book

by admin on July 8, 2009

I’ve been using raised beds for gardening for six years now. I can’t believe I waited this long to buy the All New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. His simple techniques and clear explanations are paving the way to my best raised bed garden results yet.

This revised edition came out in 2006 and includes a much simplified soil mix than his previous “recipe.” Mel gives the step-by-step instructions to build your raised beds as well as ingenious ways to go “vertical” with your raised beds. I use a variety of vertical and “regular” raised beds which you can see below.

The book includes numerous photos and beneficial side notes that make it super easy for even the gardening novice without dumbing it down for the not-so-new gardeners. As I said, I have been using raised beds for six years and just by using a couple of the many ideas gleaned from this book I have made leaps and bounds with my gardening this season. In addition to all of the square foot gardening and raised bed gardening tips, Mel also gives a lot of helpful gardening tips such as what plants do well together and which ones to avoid planting near each other.

Here’s an interview with Mel and some frequently asked questions regarding Square Foot Gardening –
