Spurs, a western themed board game on Kickstarter

Spurs board game

This month has been tough on my Kickstarter habit. I already posted about a couple of fun games that I backed earlier this month and shortly after backing those I came across my dream game. It’s titled, Spurs: A Tale in the Old West. Oh man, I knew I was in trouble when I saw a western-themed game pop up on Kickstarter.

Thanks to my dad, I grew up reading Louis L’Amour westerns and early on developed a love of John Wayne western-themed movies as well. This is the game that I think even my dad (not a big board game player at all) will enjoy.

Up until Spurs came along, the only other game I have seen that had a great looking western theme and was fun to play was Homesteaders. But that is more of a town building game and Spurs is more of a “cowboy” type of game with gunfights, bank robbing, cattle drives, and more.

The Kickstarter is going at a pretty descent clip for such a narrow niche as a western-themed board game. It hit it’s funding goal in just under 72 hours and though the pace has slowed a bit – they just unlocked another stretch goal and are over the $22,000 mark.

Watch a video of an early prototype of Spurs –

If you love board games and are a fan of westerns (both books and movies) I strongly suggest that you give Spurs: A Tale in the Old West a look.
