Stop hating on dads that spend time with their kids

by admin on October 17, 2008

Enough is enough already. Everywhere you look these days dads are being slammed. They’re slammed for not being involved enough with their kids. Then they’re slammed for trying to be too involved by joining play groups or other associations run predominantly by women.

What, you don’t believe me?

I just came across this blog entry about a dad who tries his best to be involved with his kids. He signed up to attend a meeting for his kids play group, “The Cloverdale Mommy & Me Meetup Group” in Surrey, British Columbia. He was told by this group via email, “I hate to discriminate, but hope you can understand when it comes to the security of our children.”

Because he is a male he is a “security” threat to the other kids in the group? What the heck kind of crap is that?

What have we come to when we suspect every man that wants to spend time with his kids and help out at their groups or just plain take them to the park?

I get funny (and I don’t mean funny haha) looks from time to time when I am out running errands with my kids. Especially from moms out with their kids. It’s like I have my kids with me as a cover to either pick up women or to be a pervert of some sort.

Folks, lets get something straight. A lot more men are staying at home and raising their kids or just plain getting more involved in their activities. They don’t have ulterior motives – they just plain love their kids and want to be an important part of their lives.

This crap is beyond ridiculous. There are play groups around our area that I haven’t even bothered joining because men are expressly forbidden from joining. No offense, but spending a couple hours with a bunch of women and children is not my idea of fun. My kids and I have plenty of fun playing, reading books, coloring, going to the park, and other various outings.

I don’t need a group to have fun. I just want to make it clear that men love their kids. It’s just that simple.

It’s time people got a grip and quit all this suspicion of men b.s.
