The Wonder Years was one of my favorite shows

The Detroit Tigers had 80’s Night last night at the ballpark and that got me thinking about some of my favorite tv shows from the 80’s. The Wonder Years debuted in 1988 (can you believe it’s been over 20 years?) and I was right around the same age as the main character, Kevin. He was experiencing similar situations with school and friends as I was albeit in a different decade, the 60’s.

I wish I could buy this wonderful series on DVD, but greed is keeping it from hitting the shelves in it’s original form. Remember all of that great period music from the series? Yeah, getting the rights to keep that on any DVD release of the show is evidently so expensive it is keeping this from reaching a new generation.

Another one of my favorite tv shows that debuted just a year after The Wonder Years was Quantum Leap and in order to get around paying the licensing fees (greed) they simply replaced the period tunes with muzak – horrible. It might not have seemed like a big deal to the DVD producers, but it practically ruined a couple of the episodes.

Until this gets resolved I’m relegated to watching clips from this great series on YouTube. I don’t even know if it is in syndication anywhere.

So, until that day comes here is one of the best intros ever in a television show featuring Joe Cocker belting out A Little Help From My Friends.
